Welcome to the web pages of the village of Kokorin!

The village of Kokorin is located 13 km northeast of Melnik. The first written mention about the village comes from 1320 when the owner of the farmyard and the village, Henry of Osmechov, exchanged Kokorin for Velezice with Hynek Berka of Dube. The Berkas of Dube owned Kokorin for more than hundred years. They built a new stronghold "Kokorin" on a rock bill above the valley of Psovka probably in the second half of the 14th Century. The owners used the stronghold as their residence up to about the middle of the 16th Century. After the Berkas of Dube sold Kokorin, it was owned by number of owners, but it was the Berkas of Sebirov who built a fortress in the village in 1530 on the spot where there is a castle today. The stronghold deteriorated in following centuries. In the early 20th Century, neo-nobleman Sir Vaclav Spacek, the knight of Starburg, had it repaired.

Today, the village of Kokorin consists of 6 local districts:

  • Kokorin
  • Kokorinsky Dul
  • Janova Ves
  • Brezinka
  • Truskavna
  • Semanovice

In the whole village, there are 380 residents, but during the tourist season, their number quadruples.
